Password Change\Reset On-Campus

There are two methods, (Method #1 vs. Method #2), that can be used to change and/or reset your password.

Method #1 –  (Considered easiest)

Method #1 requires:

  • User must have access to SCC computer that is connected to the SCC network.
  • This method can NOT reset a user’s password if it not known.
  • User must be able to login to the SCC computer with their own SCC account credentials, (not SCC Guest or any other credentials).
    • If user can NOT login with their SCC account credentials, then they must use Method #2.

Complete the following steps:

  1. User must log in with their own SCC username and password.
  2. Press CTRL – ALT – DELETE simultaneously.
    After pressing those three keys simultaneously, the following screen should appear:

  3. Select ‘Change a password’ and then the following screen should appear:
    password
  4. Make sure that the top line has ‘Southeast\’ followed by your username, (i.e. SOUTHEAST\AB345678)
  5. Enter your current password
  6. Enter your newly desired password (twice) that adheres to the following complexity rules:
    1. Must be 7-16 characters in length
    2. Must have at three of the four following criteria:
      1. Uppercase
      2. Lowercase
      3. Number
      4. Symbol (!,#,$,%)
    3. Must not contain more than three consecutive letters or digits of your first name, last name, or SCC ID.
    4. Should not be a password that you have used previously.
  7. Select the   Button1  button.
  8. If your current password is correct and your newly entered password is entered the same on those two consecutive lines and it meets the password complexity requirements, you should be done.

Extra Notes:

  • As a last step, you should log off of the computer and login again so that computer synchronizes itself with the new password.
  • Remember that you will have to update your Hub SSO credentials and your personal mobile devices that are connecting to your SCC email with your new password.

Method #2: (If you don’t know your password)

Method #2 allows a User to update their password without knowing their current password, but does require that:

  • User has access to a SCC computer on the SCC network that is logged in with either an SCC guest account or their own account.
  • User knows the third party, (personal), email address that is associated with your SCC account and be able to access it.

Follow the steps below:

  1. Using the computer browser, go to the reset password site: https://resetpw.southeast.edu  or select “Reset My Password” on the Application Shortcuts menu.
  2. You should now observe a page labeled:
    “IMPORTANT PASSWORD RESET INFORMATION.”
    Enter the following:

    1. Your SCC ID number
      1. If you don’t know your SCC ID or SCC Username, follow this link.
    2. Your non-SCC email address that is associated with your SCC account
    3. The security code
    4. Click on ‘Send Link’ …Possible outcomes:

Successful:  Yeah! 🙂

  • Your email address has been ‘verified.’  The screen will display information that a special link was sent to your non-SCC email that will allow you to enter a new password for your account without having to remember your old password.
  • Proceed on to Step 3.

Unsuccessful:  Something you did was interpreted as wrong 🙁

  • You entered the security code incorrectly and need to try again.
  • You entered an SCC email address and need to try again.
  • The email address you entered is not associated with your account.  For security reasons, you need to contact SCC Registration to verify the email address on your account.  Contact Registration at (402) 437-2605 for assistance and instructions if you need to change your email address.
  1. Check your non-SCC email, (Hotmail, Outlook, Yahoo, Gmail, etc.), for the link that was sent to you.  Be aware that this link is only valid for four hours.
    This email will come from “SCC Computer Helpdesk <helpdesk@southeast.edu>” with a subject of “SCC Password Change Request.”
    If you do not find the email, check your junk or spam folder.  It may take several minutes, so be patient and give it some time.  If you never receive the email, call or email the helpdesk for assistance, (402) 437-2447 or helpdesk@southeast.edu
  2. Once you have received the email, open it.
  3. Click on the link provided which will display a page that allows you to enter your new password (twice for verification) and another security code.
    Note:  Your new password MUST meet the password rules as described on the top of the webpage.
  4. Enter your new password in both of the boxes
  5. Enter the security code
  6. Click on “Change.”If your new password meets the password rules, it will flash ‘Success’ and send you to The Hub.  Your password has been changed.If your password does not meet the password rules, or you entered the incorrect security code, it will tell you and allow you to return to the previous page to try again.

Remember that you will have to update your new password your personal devices that are connected to SCC email and Hub SSO credentials.

Office365 Upgrade

 

Southeast Community College now has a set of powerful email, web, and collaboration tools that can help you work faster and gain skills for the workplace. Microsoft Office 365 includes your favorite Office features online and allows you to create sophisticated reports and presentations, collaborate in real time with classmates, and share and edit documents from your phone, PC, or Mac.

All student accounts will be upgraded as of June 16, 2014.

What does this mean for you?

After the upgrade you will have one email account with the same user name and password that you use to access the Hub or login to SCC computers.

  1. Office 365 account. This account gives you access to your school email, Lync, OneDrive, and SharePoint sites.  SCC administers this account.

What should you expect?

  • Email: We will continue to use the Hub, (thehub.southeast.edu), to access you email.
  • Sharepoint and Lync features will be enabled.

What do you need to do?

Complete the following steps:

  1. If you are using Internet Explorer 6 or 7, upgrade to a newer version of Internet Explorer.
  2. If you use Outlook to read your email and you are using Microsoft Office 2003, upgrade to Outlook 2007 or Outlook 2010 to continue using Outlook.
  3. Access your email and calendar via the Hub or directly at https://outlook.com/my.southeast.edu

TheHub: What are the password requirements?

The password requirements are as follows:

  • 7 – 16 characters in length
  • Must contain 3 of the 4 following criteria:
    • lower case letter
    • upper case letter
    • number
    • symbol of the following: !#$%^*( )
  • Must NOT contain 3 or more consecutive letters or digits of:
    • First name
    • Last name
    • SCC ID #
  • Can NOT be one of the last 5 passwords used
  • Will be required to be changed every 280 days.
